Vayigash | ויגש | “And He Drew Near.”

Towrah: Bereshiyth (Genesis) 44:18-47:27

Nabiym (Prophets): Yechezqel (Ezekiel) 37:15-28

Briyth Chadashah (Renewed Covenant): Yahuwchanon (John) 5:1-47; 10:11-19; Luqas (Luke) 24:30-48.

The life of the patriarch Yahuwseph (Joseph) is a prophetic picture of our Messiah and his gospel message being sent to the nations, just as Joseph was sent to Egypt with a prophetic message for Pharaoh.

This week’s Towrah Portion is appropriately called “And he drew near,” because it begins with Yahuwdah (Judah) drawing near to Joseph in Genesis 44:18, and humbling himself: “Then Yahuwdah (Judah) came near unto him…”

In this verse, we see a prophetic picture of the future, when there shall no longer be “enmity” (hatred) between both Houses of Yisra’el:

Yeshayahuw (Isaiah) 11:13 The envy also of Ephrayim shall depart, and the adversaries of Yahuwdah (Judah) shall be cut off: Ephrayim shall not envy Yahuwdah (Judah), and Yahuwdah (Judah) shall not vex Ephrayim.

The blood sacrifice of our Messiah made it possible for the Two Houses to be at peace with one another, yet they must first accept his atonement in order for this prophecy in Isaiah 11:13 to be manifested:

Ephsiym (Ephesians) 2:

14 For he is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of partition between us;

15 Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of two one new man, so making peace.

*Note: Our Messiah did not abolish the Towrah, for that would be in direct contradiction to what he said in Matthew 5:17-19. Instead, he abolished the “law of divorce” from Deuteronomy 24:1-4, which prevented Yisra’el from remarrying YaHuWaH. Romans 7:1-4 tells us that we are “freed from the law of divorce.”

In Genesis 45:3, Joseph finally revealed his “hidden identity” to his brothers when he said to them “I am Yahuwceph.”

In this name “Yahuwceph,” is the Father’s name, YaHuWaH, for the name “Joseph” literally means “YaHuWaH will increase.”

This is a prophetic picture of how our Messiah’s identity has been “hidden” from the House of Judah (the Jewish people) for the past 2,000 years, and now, in these last days, he is revealing himself to them by allowing his true Hebrew name and identity to be published to the nations.

Our Messiah’s name is not “Jesus,” it is “Yahuwshuwa,” meaning “YaHuWaH is salvation.”

In John 5:43, our Messiah declared “I am come in my Father’s name…”

Most people take this to mean that he came in his Father’s authority, and character. And yes, it does mean this, but it also means that he came literally in his Father’s name!

What we learn from this Towrah Portion is that the Father reveals himself through his son. When Joseph’s brothers came to buy grain, they did not recognize Joseph under his gentile name. It was only when he said “I am Yahuwceph” that they recognized him, and their eyes were opened to him!

This is why it is so important that we no longer call our Messiah by his gentile name, “Jesus.” We must call him by his true Hebrew name given to him by his Father, so that the “Lost Sheep” of the House of Yisra’el will finally recognize their Messiah!

In Genesis 45:4, Joseph bids his brothers to come near to him,” and when they did, they were forgiven and restored. In Ephesians 2:13, the Apostle Shaul (Paul) addressed the Two Houses of Yisra’el, encouraging them But now in Messiah, Yahuwshuwa, you who sometimes were far off are made near by the blood of Messiah.”

In the same way that Joseph was sent far away from his family into Egypt, he was like those lost sheep of Yisra’el who were “far off,  and yet, he bade his brothers to come near,” in the same way that our Messiah bids the lost sheep to come near.

In next week’s Towrah Portion, we are going to see in Genesis 48:10, that Ya’aqob (Jacob) is about to die, so he draws his sons and grandsons “near” so that he can bless them.

Genesis 48:10 says “And he brought them near.”

What is interesting, is that right next to this phrase in the Hebrew Text, we see “The Aleph & Taw,” which is a symbol of our Messiah, who is “The First & the Last.”

The lesson to be learned from this, is that we cannot have the Father’s blessing unless we first acknowledge the Son. It wasn’t until after Josephs brothers (the sons of Jacob) drew near to the son, that they were given the blessing of their earthly father, as well as their heavenly Father.

1st Yahuwchanon (John) 2:23 Whosoever denies the Son, the same has not the Father: he that acknowledges the Son has the Father also.

Vayigash is sometimes called “he approached,” referring to Yahuwseph (Joseph) finally approaching his brothers to reveal his true identity to them. However, in the King James Version, the exact wording of Genesis 44:18 begins with “Then Yahuwdah (Judah) came near unto him.”

Consider the fact that right now, our Messiah is “approaching” the House of Yahuwdah (Judah), especially those living in the State of Israel. He is approaching them, even during this time of persecution from the United Nations so that they may begin to draw near to him and to discover that (just like Joseph who was thought to be dead), he yet lives!

In Judaism, many Rabbi’s observe two different prophetic pictures of their awaited Messiah. They recognize the life of Joseph as being a prophetic “type” of Messiah, as they say that the Messiah would come just like Joseph, a “suffering servant.” Therefore, they say that when he comes, he will be “Messiah Ben Yahuwseph,” or Messiah, the son of Joseph.

Alternatively, other Rabbi’s observe a different type of Messiah. They see King David as a “type” of the conquering, reigning king who will gather the entire House of Yisra’el together under one kingdom. Therefore, they say that when he comes, he will be “Messiah Ben David,” the conquering reigning king.

*Note: in prophetic language, if a person emulates the life of somebody else in scripture, (such as a patriarch), they would say that he is the “son of so-and-so.” That is why our Messiah referred to himself as the “Son of David” as well as the “Son of Adam” or the “Son of man.” Adam in Hebrew means “mankind.”

Our Messiah was indeed from the lineage of the House of David (as seen in the genealogies in Matthew 1 & Luke 3). Not only was he the Son of David physically from both his mother and father, but the term “Son of David” was meant to call attention to the fact that he was the awaited Messiah. The awaited Messiah would come and conquer sin, death and the grave at his first coming. Therefore, he fulfilled the pattern of Messiah Ben Joseph (the suffering servant), as well as Messiah Ben David (the conquering, reigning king). If the House of Judah had accepted him at his first coming, there would have been no need for a second coming.

The main reason why the Jewish people as a whole rejected our Messiah at his first coming, is because they were expecting the “Messiah Son of David” who would free them from the Roman Empire, and restore the Kingdom of Yisra’el at that time.

Little did they realize, that he would come the first time as the “Messiah Son of Joseph,” (the suffering servant) so that he could “go and prepare a place” for them, (John 14:2), just as Joseph went to Egypt to prepare a place for his family during the famine.

Yahuwseph’s (Joseph’s) name was changed from Yahuwseph (which means ‘YaHuWaH will add’) to an Egyptian heathen name “Zaphnathpaaneah.”

Zaphnathpaaneah means “Savior” in Egyptian, but it means “a revealer of a secret” in Hebrew!

Our Messiah has had a hidden name for the past 2,000 years as “Jesus” to the nations. However, the secret is now being revealed in these last days. His real name given to him by his Father is “Yahuwshuwa,” which means “YaHuWaH is salvation!” The name “Y’shua(Yeshua) is the truncated form of Joshua with the Father’s name (Yahuw) removed. In John 5:43 (which is part of this week’s portion), our Messiah declared that he had come “in his Father’s name! Calling him “Y’shua” (Yeshua) or Jesus does not declare the Father’s name!

See the blog entitled: “My People Shall Know My Name!”

Pharaoh gave Joseph another name, Zaphnathpaaneah, and it has a “double meaning,” just like everything else that was doubled in the life of Joseph!

Things that were doubled in Joseph’s life:

*Two dreams when he was 17 and his family rejected them.
*Two jobs in Egypt before becoming the governor of Egypt.
*Two dreams he interpreted for the cup-bearer and the baker.
*Two dreams he interpreted for Pharaoh.
*Two periods of seven years that he stored grain in Egypt.
*Two sons that Joseph bore to the Egyptian woman Asenath.
*Joseph received “a double portion” (one extra portion over his brothers) when his father Yisra’el/Ya’aqob blessed him (Genesis 48:22).

It was not until Joseph revealed his TRUE NAME to his brothers (Genesis 45:3), that their eyes were opened to him and they were restored as one family and one house!

Similarly, it is when the WHOLE HOUSE OF YISRA’EL (including born-again, grafted-in gentiles) begin to call upon our Messiah by his TRUE NAME, that there will be unity & restoration in the house!

Some people say that the way that we pronounce and spell his name is not important or it does not matter. However, ponder this for a moment:

Song of Solomon 1:3 says that the bridegroom’s name is like “oil poured forth,” therefore do the virgins love him! From this verse, we get a clue as to what is lacking in the lamps of the foolish virgins (Matthew 25:1-13). Both, the wise and the foolish virgins were numbered as “five,” because there are five books in the Towrah, given by Mosheh (Moses). Therefore, all ten virgins were obeying the Towrah to some degree, however, the only difference is that the five foolish ones did not know his name. In other words, it is the “shemen of ha’shem” (the oil of his name) that qualifies the wise virgins to enter into the marriage!

This is why immediately after the 3.5 years of “Great Tribulation” (Matthew 24:29-31), the Congregation at Smyrna will have to suffer tribulation for TEN MORE DAYS!

Smyrna means “strengthened for myrrh!”

Queen Esther was from the House of Yahuwdah (Judah), of the Tribe of Benjamin, and she too prepared herself with “oil of myrrh” (Esther 2:12), before going to meet the bridegroom. In Esther 2:17, we read that the King loved Esther more than all the other virgins, because she prepared herself with “oil of myrrh!”

The Jewish people to this day have a Talmudic tradition where they say that the name of YaHuWaH is too holy to pronounce, so they call him “Ha’Shem” which means “The Name.”

The Congregation of Smyrna were commended by our Messiah for their “good works” but he tells them that they must suffer tribulation for ten days (Revelation 2:10).

Why?

I believe that Smyrna represents the remnant of the House of Yahuwdah (Judah) who have good works, because they obey the Towrah, but they won’t pronounce his name because of man-made traditions.

However, the Congregation at Philadelphia will have an OPEN DOOR, to meet the bridegroom immediately after the 3.5 years of “Great Tribulation.” Those who have the Key of David and an open door, will be “caught up” to meet YaHuWaH (1st Thessalonians 4:17), and then they will be taken to the New Jerusalem (for a seven-day wedding), because they have NOT DENIED HIS NAME!

In the same way that the REVELATION of Joseph’s name brought the whole family back together again, so must the REVELATION of our Messiah’s true name take place before the RESTORATION OF THE WHOLE HOUSE OF YISRA’EL IS FULFILLED!

  1. Dear Maria Merola,
It is with great pleasure to write after reading almost all your blogs. I am encouraged to write you and share that which I was led to be shown. But first I would like to say I believe whole heartedly that the name of our Father is in fact Yahuwah and his Son who is He for He was and is and is to come. The Son being Yahuwshuwah. For a long time I had felt this weird feeling in my heart that the name "Jesus" could not be the name of our savior. Because in acts 4:12 it says there is no other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved. This tells me 2 things one there is only one name by which we can call on to be saved and 2 no other man on earth has His name. The name Jesus is common name given to men. One day I fell to my knees and prayed a simple prayer "Father I want to know you for who you are". I immediately had the thought "research the name Jesus" I was like huh what but I did just that. I bought me a Strong's expanded exhaustive concordance and began my Journey to know His name. But what I didn't know is what I would find out. I was in prayer and fasting for a period of time and was led to find this. NOTE at the time I knew nothing of the Hebrew language system.

in the beginning Yahuwah created all things in 6 days it is in numeric 1+2+3+4+5+6=21 in Hebrew as I was led to go high number low and high again and looks like this 10, 5, 6, which then I found psalms 119 which has the Hebrew language in it and reads in that order in twisted form as JOD HE VAV but further looking into His divine name I came across facts as to the recent addition to the letter "J" to most modern day alphabets as that letter never existed in that time period. I found the ancient Hebrew alphabet and thus found His name Yahuwah. I later found your site which confirmed all that I would come to find to be true and completely Spiritually led. I found in the parable of the leaven and other remembrance of His word this KEY1. Yahuwshuwah always referred Himself as the bread of life which took me to the parable of the leaven. KEY2 The kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal till the whole is leavened. KEY3 leaven is yeast which helps bread to rise and makes it good to eat. KEY4 In three measures which means three measures of meal in "Jesus" Yahuwshuwah feeds five thousand in matt. Mark and Luke the three measures are as follows Yahuwshuwah always broke bread
    MATT 5 loafs 2 fish equals 7
    MARK 5 loafs 2 fish equals 7
    LUKE 5 loafs 2 fish equals 7
we then get the number of perfection and completion 777equals 21 equals10, 5, 6,equals YAH HU WAW I was in complete shock so to speak when I was given this knowledge as I do believe it is now that it should be given to others to confirm in numeric form the written truth. I pray and hope that this encourages all who come across this to seek Yahuwah's wisdom rather than the wisdom of man for man without Yahuwah's wisdom and faith in Him is wicked. I have another to share at which time I will post to comments on your next blog. Grace and peace to you all.

  2. Another thing which I have come know by this name YAHUDAH is YAHUAH without the letter "D". What do you think?
